Spirit-filled Saints

This term we have learnt a lot about spirit filled people. We can see people filled with the spirit in our every day lives in many different ways.

Here is some information about two Saints we discovered more about:

  Mother Teresa of Calcutta

Mother Teresa of Calcutta was entrusted with the mission of proclaiming God ‘s  thirsty love for humanity, especially for the poorest of the poor. “God still love the world and he sends you and me to be his love compassion to the poor”.

Mary Mackillop

Mary Mackillop cared about the people who had no one to look after them such as boys and girls who just roamed the streets, children in the country who had no school to go to,people who were sick and old and people who had nowhere to live. She helped the needy children. Mary Mackillop wanted more than anything to help these people. She was caring, loving, showing kindness and loved every single person.

It is amazing what some young people in the world today can create and imagine. You would probably find it hard to believe that children, like you, can also be inventors!

Have a look at these clips about kid inventors: (click on the link then click on the extension)

WATCH ABC New Inventors:

Space Saver Spacer  – A team of secondary students designed the Space Saver Spacer after remembering that fellow students didn’t take their spacers with them on a school camp because they took up too much room.

Collapsible beach shade – Individual sun protection for teenagers.

Automatic page turner: 12 yr old Cameron Armour shows us how he resolved the issue of keeping up with the rest of the band while playing his Cello.

A traffic light for the colour blind designed by 12 year old Madeline.

By using symbols as well as colours, it is easier for drivers, motorcycle riders, bike riders and pedestrians who may have trouble identifying colours and will make it safer for everyone on the roads.

Surfvibe –  designed by 10 yr old Hunter Conochie

The Surfvibe is a vibrating waterproof device worn around the arm or leg that alerts the surfer that the person on shore wants them to come back out of the surf.

After watching these clips, Answer these questions:

Why did each of these people make these things?

What does that tell us about where new ideas come about?
