Chocolate crackles- solid to liquid and back to solid!

We also made chocolate crackles with the help of Miss Bortolin.

Min this experiment we were investigating whether heating and cooling changes the state of matter for chocolate and butter.

This experiment had changes of state! We melted butter and chocolate using heat. They melted at different speeds but both became liquids when heated. We then mixed the butter and chocolate with cocoa puffs and refrigerated the mixture in patty pans. After cooking the chocolate crackles becam solid again!

It was a delicious experiment with most students rating the finished product 9 or 10 out of 10 and they only received one 0/10 .

Here are some pictures of the experiment!

Spectacular Science!

This term we have been leaning all about Matter, more specifically, about solids and liquids.

On Friday 7th August, 3/4 NB completed two experiments. The first experiment we completed was “outrageous ooze!”. In this experiment we were investigating whether the product of cornflour and water made a solid, a liquid, or both a solid AND a liquid!

Here are some pictures of us completing the investigation

We discovered that Outrageous ooze could be both a solid AND a liquid at the same time. All we used was cornflour and water. The consistency of the ooze depended on how much cornflour and how much water we used.

3/4 NB students comment below about how the ooze felt!
